Images obtained from an acquisition made by the #PRISMA satellite, developed from #OHBItalia for #ASI-Agenzia Spaziale Italiana, in September 2021.
PRISMA was successfully launched atop a Vega launcher on March 2019 from Arianespace Spaceport in Kourou, French Guyana. Now the satellite is fully #operative acquiring, downloading, processing, delivering fundamental images for monitoring our #Planet as the one here attached.
The picture on the left shows the #visiblebands, while the on the right is the short wavelength #infraredchannel.
This view captured a long portion of the #GrandCanyon, a river valley created by the flow of the Colorado River in #Arizona, USA. The canyon can be identified as the sinuous line that runs from the northwest area to the southeast corner of the picture.
The canyon and its surroundings belong to several national parks and to Native American reservations which, according to archaeological evidence, have inhabited the area for several centuries.
The main canyon and its tributaries are among the most visited natural attractions in the #world.
