The prestigious #BrunoRossi 2024 prize from the High Energy Astrophysics Division (HEAD), part of the American Astronomical Society (AAS), was awarded this year to Mr. Martin Weisskopf, Mr. Paolo Soffitta and the IXPE Mission Science Collaboration “for the development of the Imaging X-ray Polarimetry Explorer, whose new measurements improve our understanding of particle acceleration and emission from astrophysical shocks, black holes and neutron stars”.
IXPE is a NASA mission for the SMEX (Small Explorer Program), developed with a strong Italian contribution coordinated and funded by
Agenzia Spaziale Italiana and with the support of INFN – Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare and INAF – Istituto Nazionale di Astrofisica.
OHB Italia S.p.A., is proud to be part of such an important space mission, as unique industrial partner, developed fundamental parts of the
satellite: the Detector Unit Electronics (
#BEE), the so-called Filter and
Calibration Wheel Mechanism and the Detector Service Unit (
#DSU) which controls the Detector Units and provides a variety of functions as thermal control of detector, collecting scientific data and also interfaces to the rest of the spacecraft.
IXPE, with its new and detailed measurements, is making an amazing contribution to our understanding of the universe.
