The future ESA’s #LCNS (Lunar Communication and Navigation Services) system will pave the way for a communication and positioning infrastructure on the Moon.
A key element will be the #MoonStation, a surface beacon and reference station:
– the #Beacon is a radio lighthouse emitting recognizable signals to help vehicles and astronauts orient themselves.
– the #ReferenceStation is a lunar reference point, similar to terrestrial GPS stations, that receives and processes signals to further improve accuracy.
In practice, the Moon Station will be a technological base able to:
✅ transmit position and timing signals (like a digital lighthouse)
✅ serve as a stable reference point for safe navigation.
In this mission, #Quascom acts as Prime Contractor, while OHB Italia S.p.A. will play a key role as subcontractor: it will be responsible for the full realisation of the Moon Station, from the design phases to the development of the critical technologies.
The Moon Station will be the lighthouse and reference point guiding astronauts and vehicles on the lunar surface, ensuring orientation and safety.
Let’s say…The future is now.
