WHEN EVERY DETAIL MAKES THE DIFFERENCE IN SPACE

On the International Space Station (#ISS), even the smallest components play a huge role: if they stop working, they can jeopardize entire scientific experiments.

This is the case for the #ESEM (Exchangeable Standard Electronic Modules), part of the RPDA system of NASA’s Microgravity Science Glovebox (MSG) – the “miniature laboratory” on board the ISS.

#RPDA is an electronic module designed to distribute electrical power safely and efficiently to other systems or subsystems.
In the case it works like a “smart power strip”: it takes the available
#energy and routes it to the various experiments and equipment, ensuring that the right amount of power is delivered while protecting the payloads from possible overloads or failures.

And this is where OHB Italia S.p.A.‘s contribution becomes essential:
it has manufactured and will deliver to NASA a set of spare ESEMs to ensure the continuity of Glovebox operations.
It will also guarantee, in collaboration with ESA, the repair capability and procurement of the necessary components.

Keeping the Glovebox operational is a fundamental task: means enabling #astronauts to carry out unique scientific research in space, with a direct impact on life here on Earth. 🌍
