MetOp-SG is an ESA and Eumetsat (EPS) project that will provide, within three years (the launch is planned in 2024), the most accurate #weatherforecasts ever made available before. It will collect also consistent, long-term data for operational services in the fields of #meteorology and #climatemonitoring analysis.
#OHBItalia is responsible for the MWI (Micro Wave Imager) instrument that will be on board of three satellites.
MWI is a conically-scanning microwave radiometer that provides measurements of precipitation and observations of clouds, snow, sea ice coverage, water vapor, temperature, and surface images.
Now the #IFM (Intermediate Flight Model) of MWI has been successfully integrated on the satellite B by #Airbus in Germany (tha’s why it is upsidedown!). The activities to integrate and test the #PFM (Proto Flight Model) Instrument are on-going in parallel too.
(The MWI Contract is carried out under a programme of and funded by the European Space Agency. The view expressed herein can in no way be taken to reflect the official opinion of the European Space Agency. MetOp-SG is a collaborative programme between ESA and EUMETSAT, Airbus Defence and Space is Prime contractor, under ESA, for the two Satellites series contracts –
