The images shown on this page are elaborations of the visible and infrared bands from an acquisition over #Greenland by the PRISMA satellite, developed from OHB Italia S.p.A. for Agenzia Spaziale Italiana, successfully launched in March 2019.
The area acquired by the hyperspectral #satellite is located in the northwest region of the island, near the Hall Basin.
Although part of the North American continent, the island of Greenland belongs to the Kingdom of Denmark and is almost completely covered by perennial ice caps whose thickness, even in inland areas, is shrinking due to anthropogenic activities and rising temperatures.
Satellite #EarthObservation is fundamental to understand the severe problem of #climatechange and the emergency to safeguard without any delay our beloved Planet.
