RF Communication and TT&C Engineer (M/F) REF.Avio RF_2024

As an RF Communication and TT&C Engineer, you will be responsible for all aspects of the RF communication and TT&C Subsystem design and follow-up until the production phase, and in-orbit commissioning.


  • RF COMM and TT&C Requirement definition and Flow-down
  • RF Analysis (E2E Link Budget, Power level budget, ITU requirements on maximum PFD…)
  • Specifications of RF and TT&C Passive and Electronic equipment (Antenna, Filters, Amplifiers, Transponder)
  • Requirements management tracking (i.e. DOORS)
  • Definition and maintenance of the COMMS documentation data package throughout all the lifecycle of the satellite mission from phase A to E.
  • Ability to Manage of all the subsystem and items/units relevant review internally and with the customer on time and cost
  • Ability to Manage of all the subsystem and items/units AIV/AIT phases



  • Participate and collaborate concurrently to consolidate the architecture definition of Communication subsystems (COMMS)
  • Concurrent engineering aimed to the definition and maintenance of the Software Subsystem Specification (SSS)
  • COMMS Test specification definition and Test procedures AIT support
  • Perform technical trade-off analyses (Interfaces, budgets, architectures, schemes, topologies, etc.) to make technical decisions
  • Perform link budget calculations
  • Manage licenses with ITU and in general with institutional entities
  • Conduct COMMS analyses to feed design-validation loops (single-point failure, FMEA, reliability, hazard analysis, thermal, radiation, NCRs, RFDs, RFWs etc.)
  • Perform COMMS circuit functional checks, debugging, troubleshooting and confidence testing
  • Coordinate with a multidisciplinary team (software, mechanical, AIT, harness, production) to fulfil the quality, cost and programmatic objectives
  • Drive improvements and perform investigations and trade studies to push COMMS design to new boundaries in terms of reliability, capabilities, efficiency mass and cost savings
  • Generate and release on schedule engineering documentation such as technical notes, test reports, link budgets, antenna coverage, simulation reports
  • Document and communicate the design and analysis results thoroughly and clearly via design reviews
  • Ability to produce presentation for customer reviews
  • Support to the production of Satellite User Manual and Space To Ground ICD
  • Collaborate actively with the Procurement Team to support all the activities related to COMMS items new developments, manufacturing and procurement. Support vendor selection, manufacturing monitoring and procurement of items and EGSEs and consumables according to applicable product assurance and regulatory standards
  • Collaborate actively as focal point of COMMS design with the AIT team to support the qualification and acceptance test campaigns (functional and environment tests)
  • Provide interface support with the AIT and Production team to ensure compliance with the final design and feasibility to fulfil schedule goals.




  • S. degree or higher in Electronic or Telecommunication engineering or an appropriate engineering field
  • 2+ years of experience working in related positions
  • 2+ years background in RF design or in at least one of these areas:
    • Antenna: design coverage analysis
    • Ground Systems: Radiofrequency Compatibility Tests (RFCT);
    • RF: circuits design
    • TT&C: Design and Analysis
  • Experience with requirements management, tracing high-level requirements to hardware radiofrequency design solutions through DOORS software
  • Experience working in formal engineering processes (requirements capture, documentation, design reviews, design verification, etc.)
  • Understanding of radiofrequency and physical principles that drive the design of COMMS hardware such as EMC, ESD, thermal, vibration, licenses management, bands allocation, etc.
  • Understanding of Finite Elements (FEM) simulation concepts
  • Knowledge of simulations software
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills with a demonstrated ability to interact with other disciplines
  • Proven ability to work in a transversal and multitasking environment
  • Excellent attention to detail.


Nice to have qualifications:

  • Experience with design of electronics for hard environments (radiation, thermal, vacuum, vibration, shock…)
  • Experience with aerospace industry normative (ECSS, NASA, ITU, MIL…)
  • Experience in Model Based Engineering concept and applications
  • Experience in FEKO simulation and or mesh optimization
  • Fast adaptability to rapid changes environments
  • Team player able to work different tasks in parallel.
